Your visit of this website is a matter of great pleasure to us. The initiation of our website is but a modest effort in terms of responding to your quest for obtaining facts and information about various aspects of life and laws concerning Afghanistan.

This blessed land of heroic people with a history of more than five thousand years and Arian-Hellenistic-Islamic civilizations is now a democracy in transition. In fact, the Constitution of 2004 of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan provides for the separation of Governmental powers and a clear definition of the rights and obligations of the Afghan citizens, including guarantees for freedom of speech and movement. H.E. President Hamid Karzai is an elected leader and so are the members of the two Chambers of Parliament and Provincial Councils.

It goes without saying that we cherish the friendship of all our friends in the international community, particularly our host country, Italy. The history of relations between our two countries goes back to 1921. It is with a great sense of appreciation that we always refer to the cordial hospitality of Italy accorded to two of our great monarchs, His Majesty Ghazi Amanullah Shah and His Majesty Mohammad Zahir Shah, Father of the Nation, during their years of exile.

Furthermore, we appreciate Italy’s assistance in various sectors such as archeology, agriculture, infrastructure, judicial reform and the training of Afghan civil and military personnel. Of special significance are the mutual visits of the leaders of our two countries and the convening of a joint conference regarding the Rule of Law in Rome, July 2007.

Naturally, as a matter of priority, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan pursues the foreign policy and diplomatic objectives of the government here in Rome and, therefore, is prepared to render, inshallah, all diplomatic and consulate services whenever, you dear friends, feel the need to utilize them.
